Flame Worked Dichroic Glass Marble

$175.00

Flame worked borosilicate dichroic glass marble. This handmade, one of a kind marble incorporates a good amount of dichroic glass on the inside along with a layer of fumed silver behind the dichroic. The back side has been fumed with Sterling Silver and 24k gold to create the colors seen there. The pattern on the inside is achieved in part by applying a piece of sheet glass with a metal coating on one side (the dichroic glass) to the end of a piece of clear glass rod. As the two pieces are melted together into a solid mass the sheet glass is twisted, which fractures the metal coating on the surface creating the many small flecks of reflective color seen within. After a couple of layers of clear glass were added, a thin layer of fumed silver was applied, followed by a pattern of clear glass lines on top of the fumed silver. All of that glass was further melted in to become a single solid mass of glass. A layer of black glass is then added to create not only a backdrop for the colors on the inside, but also to act as a surface onto which the color/pattern of the back side could be applied. It measures 1.74" in diameter (44.25mm) and is signed "J.Cavagnaro '21". This marble will arrive safely packed from my Dagsboro, DE studio.
